MAP

Park in the National Park car park in Alwinton village (toilets available). Turn left out of the car park and go up to the 'T' junction, in the centre of the village. Cross the village green and go over a footbridge, turning left up a track, passing a farm entrance on your left.

The track is called Clennel Street, follow it up the hill and through a gate and passed a cottage on your right. Continue on the track until passing some sheep pens on your left, continue through a gate, keeping Kidlandlee forest on your right, follow the track up to to some ruined buildings, called 'Woolhope'.

Pass Woolhope on the left and enter the forest, after about 50 yards, take the road going back to the right and follow this, out of the forest. After about 250 yards the road begins to curve to the right. You must continue straight ahead on a grassy path up a forest ride.

Walk until the fence on your right ends, turn right and then within 20 yards turn left. Follow the ride down until it reaches a forest track. At this point the path is difficult to see but continue straight across the track and down a narrow, boggy ride. You will soon come to a walled enclosure and the farm of Kidlandlee

Climb over the stile and go down the narrow field to your left until you come to a gate on the right, just before a steel shed. Turn right through the gate and turn left through another gate, into the farm yard.

Leave Kidlandlee by it's entrance track, continue through a gate until there is a wood on your left. At the end of the wood the road bears right, leave the road going through a gate to the left. Go along a grassy path with trees on your left to reach another gate. Go straight ahead down the ride, when it bends to the left continue straight ahead. Cross a gravel road and continue down the hill, past a telegraph post, until you reach another gravel road on the valley floor.

Turn right over the cattle grid and follow the road along the valley bottom for about 1.5 miles until you pass Clennel farm on your left side. Turn right over the footbridge, signposted to Alwinton, and follow the track back over two fields until it joins the track on which you started. Turn left to return into the village
