Left - Blue Row, built in 1832. shown here about 1912

Right - Blue Row. Originally the northern end consisted of four one bedroomed cottages. These were demolished to make an entrance to the Vallum housing estate in 1959.

 

Right - Northern end of Blue Row were the four one bedroomed cottages stood, The gap, created by demolition of the four cottages, in 1959, to gain access to the new estate, now the entrance to the Vallum estate and the site of four Old People's Bungalows

Right - The "Cottage", built in 1827, stands at the top of Heddon Banks,, somewhat modernised in the 1930's. The rear bedroom has an unusual window facing east. The window appears to have been brought from some other much older building and built into the cottage.

Possibly the only property with an earth closet still standing. These were emptied into the old quarry

Next door are "Carters Cottages" which were built in 1832 and brought upto date in1957.

 

Right - Site of Mushroom Row, three cottages were built in1832 and five houses built in 1854. All were demolished in 1955.

The houses on Hexham road near the old Post Office were built in 1829. The date is engraved in Roman numerals

 

Left - Jubilee Terrace, and the Methodist church, at what is now the entrance to the library

 

 

Sir James Knott erected some two houses along the Military road around 1920. The cottages close to the Three Tun's were to be the start of a model village. The soil from the excavation of these two cottages was used to fill in the village pond.
