A recording from BBC Radio Newcastle, broadcast in Mono on 20th June 1977 from a show by Harcourts heroes and Alan Hull with the Radiators from Newcastle City Hall on May 31st. The band played a mix of instrumental and R&B standards plus some Harcourt/Jackson originals. Next on the bill was Alan Hull playing eight songs alone before the Radiator Band joined him on stage performing all tracks from Alans album Phantoms. The full Alan Hull & Radiator concert can be found on the Live Phantoms liveshow, even though in poor quality.

Harcourts Heroes Studio Demos

At Impulse Studio in Nov. 77 a very different line-up of The Heroes recorded a couple of Harcourt/Jackson originals plus a well known tune by Chris Rea. Originally released as "Harcourt's Heroes Vol. 1". Now discarded, the tracks were slightly improved and added here as bonus tracks.

Happy or Sad: Very close to the Lindisfarne version (compare with Buried Treasures Vol. 1). Here it has an additional chorus at the end what makes the plus of 15 seconds in total length.

When it gets the hardest: Similar to 'Happy' with Jacka playing 30 seconds longer his harmonicas towards the end.

Warm Feeling: What a difference!!! Sung by John 'Hutch' Hutchinson (in the 70s he played with Duncan taylor in a band called "The American Echoes"). Jacka thought it needed a more country-ish vocal. Great to see how far the song had been and how it developed into the final version of "Back and Fourth", only a few months later.

Make it last and Easy Love: Appeared back on the scene in 1980 for "In The Night" Ray Jackson's only solo album.

Fool (if you think it's over): It is unkown if this song, written by Chris Rea who had a major hit with it, was planned to go onto any album or if it was just a piece for a studio rehearsal. Two different, quite rough, takes. The first one has an electric piano solo section while for the other one Ray took over the solo blowing his harmonica.

It'll be me: Probably only another studio rehearsal. A very old rock 'n' roller by Jerry Lee Lewis.

Note: Jacka left "The Heroes" shortly after the sessions for the reunion of Lindisfarne. John Hutch Hutchinson took over Jacka's place but it was in June 78 when the band finally split.
