This collection of recordings is presented in much the same vein as Lindisfarnes New Millennium label CDs. The similarity is that these are BBC Radio 1 sessions taken from early 70s broadcasts. On a personal level this is probably my favourite live show (from a historical perspective). Surviving vintage JTL material is thin on the ground (although some 10 BBC sessions were recorded), and until quite recently I had thought that these programmes had disappeared forever - victims to the airwave ether.

The first four session tracks are taken from John Peels radio show (May 1973), broadcast before the advent of the bands first LP. John opens by introducing the band members, and his comments between performances provide real atmosphere. With Mr. Peel still promoting new bands on his show, this session sounds as if it was recorded last month, not 30 years ago!

Tracks 5-15 are taken from Radio 1 sessions between 1974-5, using songs gleaned from the first two JTL albums. Last session includes Big Jim, a novelty Newcastle song, tackled single handedly (in more ways than one - listen to it!) by Billy Mitchell, and finishes with Lying On The Water coupled with Tonto MacGuire, a different variation on the Corny Pastiche theme.

For quality reasons, all tracks are in mono, with the exception of the last (bonus) studio track Big Ocean Liner, (recorded 4.12.74) taken from the B side of the original vinyl single Home Sweet Home. It is unique in the fact that it is a slightly differing mix from that on the Old Straight Track CD.

This is a great CDR featuring three exclusive tracks. Jack The Lad 6 7 heaven!
