Album Cover Info

When the late Alan Hull joined Lindisfarne in 1969 he had a stockpile of over three hundred songs written during the previous eight years. His most familiar material was recorded with Lindisfarne during the seventies but there was a huge bofy of quality work that remained.

Alan was a frequent visitor to the BBC's Maida Vale Studios, for some sessions he performed solo, other times he brought in musicians, in all cases he produced sparkling versions of his uniquely personal songs.

Alan had a remarkable gift of turning his own thoughts, concerns and observations into songs of great strength and beauty that continuer to strike a chord with a huge number of people. He always considered himself a songwriter first and foremost, the song was always the most important element, he had to believe it.

He wrote love songs, political songs, and daft songs. He had his favourites and it is no secret that his biggest success, 'Fog On The Tyne' was far from the top of his personal list of Alan Hull compositions. Nevertheless, he loved the irony of his two-minute throw-away song becoming the new worldwide Geordie Anthem.

The first CD of this double set features material recorded at Maida Vale during 1973 and 1975 and the second is a complete 'In Concert' recorded on the 21st May 1975. The majority of the songs first appeared on Alan's early albums 'Pipedream' and 'Squire' and became staples of his concert set for the rest of his career. The versions on this album feature performances that capture Alan Hull at his unique best.
